Solastalgia is the homesickness you feel while you're still at home; a form of emotional distress caused by environmental change. This is an art film & documentary hybrid, where young people from different countries talk about their thoughts and worries in regards to climate change, and how it will effect their future. We follow a lone character on her journey to capture what's left before it's too late.
As the director of this film, I:
     - Researched and conceptualized the topic.
     - Developed the themes.
     - Found the interviewee's & conducted all the interviews.
     - Edited the interviews into podcasts.
     - Location scouted.
     - Cooperated with my DOP on making the shotlists.
     - Casting.
     - Edited my own version in parallell with my editor.
     - Worked closely with my composer.

PITCH FILM
For this production, we had to pitch two different concepts to the examiners. To pitch this idea, we made a proof of concept where we tried out some of the techniques we were planning to use in the potential film. We were planning on having filmed interviews, but since we wanted to give a broader perspective, representing youth from around the world, we decided not to do that in the actual short. We tested out camera lenses & the use of symbolism.
BEHIND THE SCENES
Some BTS from our very cold days on set, with temperatures reaching -10°C. Making sure we had warm clothes and moved our bodies enough was a must when shooting this film.
